Art of Maureen Newton

Maureen Newton was born and raised in Medicine Hat. She always wanted to be an artist and started her art education at a very early age with her father, who was also an artist. She spent countless hours watching him work in his studio or drawing and painting with him. Maureen received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Lethbridge majoring in painting and printmaking. Her primary love is painting in oils and her unique paintings quite often have a removable component such as her ‘nudes with removable clothes’ series. Her work is in many private and public collections including the Medicine Hat College and Esplanade Art Gallery Permanent Collection. ‘This is for the Birds’ was on display at the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre in 2009, at the Thames Art Gallery in Chatham ON in 2013 and at the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery in 2014. Her work and works in progress can be viewed at Inspire Studio, Gallery & Cafe.
